Today I tried my best to recreate these scrabble tile cookies that I saw on one of my favorite baking blogs, Bake at 350. Since Valentine's Day is coming up I thought it would be a festive way to prepare for the holiday. These are made from a basic vanilla-almond sugar cookie recipe with royal icing. I will admit, this was my first time using piping bags and, while I am pretty impressed with my first attempt, I definitely have found a new respect for cookie decorators! I think for those of you who already have some baking and decorating experience, that this would be fun to try. However, for those of us who are just starting out, I think learning the basics before attempting multi-step decorating like this would be a better idea.
What I enjoyed most about making these though, was learning how to "flood" the cookies. (Flooding is a great step to let kids help with too!) Once you've added a simple outline on your cookies, you then water down the icing, and use a squeeze bottle to fill in the cookies.

Hello World of Sprinkles, Icing & all things Delicious!
I started this blog initially because of a class assignment to choose a topic that I will be working with all semester, and eventually creating my own website for. For me baking is much more than just a hobby, it's something that I have always found great joy in doing and seems to keep me sane! I love creating cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and other sweet treats and sharing them with others, so I figured what better topic to pick than baking? I am a cupcake junkie and am no stranger to waiting in hour long lines for the perfect one. I do my best to re-create the delicious creations at home, but in no way do I consider myself to be a master baker (or even a good one for that matter) it's just something that makes me happy. This is why I am determined to better my baking skills...and that's where this blog comes in. Here you can follow me and my progress as I attempt to become a better baker and teach myself some new things about a topic I love.
